Is your toddler ready to start potty training?

The majority of parents believe that the perfect time to potty train a toddler is when the toddler reaches a certain age. While the suggested age of 2 to 3 years old is a good starting point, some children need to start later. Lets go through some things you want to look for when deciding if it’s time to tear off the diapers.

Does your child want out of diapers?

Often times a child will develop an interest in wearing underwear or using the potty. This is especially true if they have older siblings that has already conquered the potty.

Does your child follow directions?

This doesn’t mean that your toddler never says “no”, it just means that they comprehend when you ask them to do things. In cases where the toddler has a learning disability, it can be nearly impossible to start potty training before the age of 3.

Does your child show signs of when it’s time to go?

Everyone knows that “potty face”, some kids pause everything they are doing, others even sit and squat. If your child is showing sure signs of when it’s time to go, it’s going to be a much easier potty training process.

Does your child stay dry for longer than two hours in the daytime?

Longer periods between wet diapers is a good sign that your toddler is acquiring the “hold it in” skills needed for potty training.

Does your child complain about wet diapers?

Then your child will love to be potty trained. Most parents will not be so lucky and will require other techniques to convince their toddler to go in the potty instead of their diapers

Can your child pull their pants up and down?

Unless you want to go into the bathroom every single time your toddler has to go potty, this is an ability that they must possess or learn quickly.

Can your child access the children’s potty

Not only is it important that your child can access the potty but also be able to get on and off it without help. The more you toddler can do on their own, the prouder they will be meaning their chance of success greatly increases

If you think your toddler is ready to start potty training, it’s time to see if you the parent/s are ready to get started.
